Melvor Idle strips away the 3D graphics and environments of OSRS Gold as well as other MMOs and reduces it to a simple idle game that relies on menus that lets players control their inventory, skills and quests. In combat, completing battles and winning earns XP and loot which can later be put into any level of skill tree or upgrade players wish to purchase, while repeating activities such as crafting or cutting wood has rewards of their own.
Malcolm has played RuneScape since he was a kid, and has also dabbled in numerous of the best idle games such as Clicker Heroes, Cookie Clicker and NGU Idle. While he enjoyed them however, he believed that it could be doing more to make it pleasing in a similar manner as Jagex's flagship RPG.
"So, I decided to come up with my own idea, never really imagining it would even be released, much less become an instant hit," he tells GamesIndustry.biz. "I wanted to create something that wasn't in the conventional idle game mould one that was feature-rich and allowed players to have a option in the way they wanted to move forward instead of simply increasing numbers on a constant treadmill.
After playing with an idea while behind closed doors, I started meshing ideas and techniques from classic MMOs along with the well-known idle game model, resulting in something that is enjoyable casually, on the go and easily fit into the player's busy schedule."
He goes on to say: "While the numbers and stats aren't the things that players really enjoy about MMOs, it is what fans of the most dedicated players tend to gravitate towards once the exploration is finished. As it's often so central to what the longest term players' focus is it's logical to make this an integral part of the game's design. Furthermore, it blends perfectly with common design elements in many idle games."
Although he drew inspiration from other MMOs However, the structure in RuneScape was one he carefully followed, and he built out the universe of Melvor Idle into a parallel universe with the 20-year-old RPG. "RuneScape was a fundamental touchstone for the game because it was such a crucial games for me" he explains."
Much like many I first started playing Buy RuneScape Gold since the majority of my acquaintances at the time had it. The fact that it was an online game was a huge part of this. The low barrier to entry combined with RuneScape's scalar depth and complexity attracted me back to the game for quite a long time and is what I had a desire to duplicate with Melvor Idle."
